Mattel teamed up with the International Olympic Committee and Tokyo 2020 to create the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 special collection as part of the IOC World Licensing Program. The collection is designed to inspire a new generation of children to be interested in sports, to familiarize them with Olympic values, as well as to believe in themselves, develop their interests and strive for more.
The Mattel Collection emphasizes the inclusiveness and innovative character of the Tokyo Olympics. Toys represent five completely new sports added to the competition program to inspire a new generation of athletes and fans around the world - baseball, karate, skateboarding, sports climbing and surfing. “The new international joint project with Mattel under the IOC’s global licensing program is a great way to attract an important audience for us, our young fans and their families, to combine them with the Olympic brand and its values,” commented the managing director of television and marketing services of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Timo Lumme . “The Olympic Games are a monumental event that brings people together and inspires all ages,” said Janet Hsu, chief franchise director of Mattel. “Our special limited edition Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 collection honors popular sports, introduces the young generation to outstanding sports traditions and reflects the spirit of the Olympics.”
